We have submitted the first two instalments of the petition (804 signatures) to NBC and a total of 1000 will certainly be reached. Once this has been achieved a copy of 1000 signatures will be sent to every councillor to highlight our concerns about the forthcoming dog control orders. Currently the Council is in consultation with the Parish and County councils asking what dog control orders they would like in their areas. Once this has been completed the Council will then look at all open spaces across the whole town. Every site will have to be visited by council officers. This will be a time consuming exercise and so the council have said that the earliest they expect the proposed dog control orders to be advertised is the end of the summer. Once the proposed dogs control orders are advertised we will send you this information immediately because we will only have 28 days to make our objections. Some of you have said that you would like to attend the public council meetings when this is discussed. The council has said that there will be no such meetings until the proposed dog control orders are released. We will let you know about any meetings when the time comes. We have two documents for you to read as well as other links – one is a press release by the NBC issued in May and the other is a large article that was printed in the June issue of Dog’s Today. It is very interesting and amongst other things tells you what is happening in other councils and how to set up a group and protect your rights and freedom as a dog owner. We will be following their advice but in the first instance we need all of you to help: In order for us to fight the proposed Dog Control Orders we all need to draw together and work as one - NorthantsDogs. We want more people to know about this law and how it can affect them and therefore by doing this we will increase our circulation and become stronger when dealing with the council. To do this we ask if every one of you could spread the information about this law and get at least one person to join by submitting their Name and Email address in the “Sign-up for Email Updates” box on the home page of www.northantsdogs.co.uk. (In the event of a person not having an email address we will and are accepting postal addresses.) Also note that there are two petition links on the home page – one is Local and the other is a National Prime Minister petition – so please sign and get as many people as you can to sign it too. So we ASK you can you all please send the Name and Email of at least one person who would like to join NorthantsDogs. Many of you go to training clubs, vets, pet shops; meet dog walking friends, as well as family and friends - please let people know and give them the chance to join up because it is only in numbers and together that we will succeed in fighting for our rights and freedom as dog owners. The majority of dog owners still haven't got a clue about this law and when they are told are not only horrified but thankful that they now know because knowing gives them a chance of doing something about it. Finally some of the emails have bounced back due to illegible writing so if you find that other people have not received an email from us and yet submitted their email address then please get them to re-submit it. Let’s grow NorthantsDogs NOW for our dogs’ sake and ours.
